Brad, thanks for being the voice of reason, once again. I do worry about viruses. What I don’t understand is how dead certain Mac users are that their machines last longer, and how passionately this claim is rejected by Windows users. I don’t like working in OpenOffice (clumsy, ugly — OpenOffice, that is), but it’s certainly not worse than Word 2007 which is just offensive to everyone who has work to do. Argh.

Very intriguing! OK, I’m going to go right back to nuts and bolts.

If you have specific software that you’re going to want to use (you mention Acrobat Pro, for example) check the availability for Mac OS, Windows, and Linux. If everything you want is available for either Mac or Linux, stay away from Windows, because Windows has The Viruses all but pre-installed.

If you can do what you need to do in Firefox and OpenOffice (free at openoffice.org and makes nice PDFs of your documents) then you could use any operating system and we can just talk hardware.

Es ist schade, dass krichliche Institutionen bei Missbrauch von Abhängigen durch ihre Mitarbeiter, dies nicht offensiv verfolgen. Auch bei anderen Institutionen, wie Schulen usw. erfolgt auch keine offensive Verfolgung. Wenn ich beim Aldi eine Tüte Milch klaue und dabei erwischt werde, dann sind gleich 2 Staatsanwälter hinter mir her. Nun ja mal schauen, wie sich unsere Gesellschaft weiter entwickelt.

Ich kann gar nicht glauben, was ich in letzter Zeit alles über den Missbrauch höre und lese. Früher waren die Kirchen und Schulen Institutionen die über alles erhaben waren. Jetzt schaut man langsam dahinter, dass da auch nur Menschen arbeiten. Ich bin tief enttäuscht.
