Did you get a sense that your teachers and professors even looked at you? Being acknowledged as a human being is a wonderful experience; that is why the person of the learner should be at the heart of each course or seminar activity – or else no knowledge will be created, and no information conveyed. The instructor’s place is distinct; he is ahead of his students in several ways. If he does not live up to the ensuing responsibilites, his lead will never shrink, and he will fail. Humour and dignity – or, as one of my students once put it, ‘pranks and prayers’ – are the guiding lights of my activity as instructor.
